Encinos Prietos. Transforming Alliances.
The magic of communities lies in their people and traditions. Encinos Prietos is a place where the people care about the common good, with collective unity and social participation. It was very gratifying that when the Water Saves Lives team arrived at the site, the prior organization of the residents immediately became evident.
When a water purifier is donated, it carries the hopes of many people and many organizations involved, because it aims to have a positive impact through this donation. We are motivated by the fact that so many people want to be part of this change, and it is clear that there are more of us who are good.
The creation of strategic alliances has been key to reaching communities like Encinos Prietos, as we work from different places and perspectives to support those who need it most, especially with a focus on empowerment rather than charity. This model has been beneficial for both the donor organizations and the people who benefit from the project, because every step we take together brings us closer to success. Mireya Barrios, Coordinator of the Water Committee, explains:
"...They brought us a water purification plant, which will benefit our community a lot, because there are still many diseases, and with this, we hope to avoid them. We also thank them for considering us".
We cannot end these lines without first acknowledging the great work of the Castillo Family and organizations such as the Universidad Campesina del Sur (UNICAM), Guerrero es Primero, Banco de Alimentos de México, Centro Mexicano para la Filantropía, Centro Nacional de Apoyo para Contingencias Epidemiológicas y Desastres, Unidos Por Ellos, and Fundación Walmart México. Without a doubt, we could not have moved forward so quickly without all the support they have given us.
Thank you, Marco Antonio Jaramillo and Adriana Paz from UNICAM, for always being there.
