Tecomapa Community Dining Room. Hope In Every Drop

Thanks to the Castillo family and the alliance of organizations such as Universidad Campesina del Sur, Guerrero es Primero, Banco de Alimentos de México, Centro Mexicano para la Filantropía, Centro Nacional de Apoyo a Contingencias Epidemiológicas y Desastres, Unidos Por Ellos and Fundación Walmart México, a water treatment plant was donated to this community.

The inhabitants face enormous difficulties in accessing clean and safe water. The water sold in jugs is expensive and the water extracted from nearby natural sources is sometimes contaminated. This not only complicated the drinking of clean water, but also the preparation of food.

The water purification equipment has been installed in a specially conditioned space inside the dining room. It is capable of transforming dirty water into clean and safe water through advanced filtration and purification processes, having an immediate and positive impact.

It has been a change welcomed by the inhabitants with joy, since the availability of drinking water has also allowed the money previously destined to the purchase of water bottles to be used for other priorities such as food, health or transportation. Martha Marino, an inhabitant of the community, shares with us,

“The water treatment plant will benefit us a lot, because thanks to this we will drink cleaner water, we will have water to give to our children and our families, this will reduce an expense that we had, to go out to refill our water bottles elsewhere, we are happy…”

Although the arrival of the water treatment system has brought a breath of fresh air to Tecomapa, the town continues to face numerous challenges, basic infrastructure, health services and education remain critical areas in need of attention and support. The water treatment plant, however, represents a model of how donations and external assistance can make a difference.
