El Aguacate Kindergarten. A Breath Of Joy

After the devastation left by Hurricane Otis in the region of Guerrero, the Ignacio Rodriguez Kindergarten, located in the community of El Aguacate, has received valuable support for the population.

But behind the installation in this garden, there is the fact that for some time the enclosure has not received children, since few are those who have the opportunity to study and those who do, go to other places to do so. The community decided that this place would be the headquarters of the water treatment plant, so that in addition to receiving pure water, the inhabitants would once again see this space as a meeting place for the whole town.

Otis left in its wake a trail of destruction that included damage to the garden infrastructure and contamination of water sources. Water systems already precarious before the storm were completely compromised, highlighting health issues in a community already facing significant economic hardship.

The impact of this donation is great, as the water purification equipment not only provides clean water for drinking and kitchen use, but also contributes to the restoration of basic hygienic conditions. This is especially crucial in the post-hurricane context, where waterborne diseases can occur due to widespread contamination. Mrs. María Luisa Matero, a resident of the town, expressed her gratitude:

"You know that we were badly hurt by huraçan Otis, thank you because you have been supporting us…” “We are going to give it an honest use so that the whole community can come and drink the water here”.

The installation of the system has also been possible thanks to the efforts of the Castillo family and organizations such as the Universidad Campesina del Sur, Guerrero es Primero, Banco de Alimentos de México, Centro Mexicano para la Filantropía, Centro Nacional de Apoyo a Contingencias Epidemiológicas y Desastres, Unidos Por Ellos and Fundación Walmart México, who have collaborated in the donation and implementation of this great project in Guerrero.
