Rancho Las Marias. Rebirthing With Pure Water
After the devastation of Hurricane Otis, which hit entire communities at the end of October 2023, we have witnessed that aid has not stopped arriving in Guerrero thanks to private companies, civil associations and our clients who have joined forces.
This is the case of Rancho las Marías, which despite the various logistical challenges, was able to install a water purification plant, marking a before and after in the daily lives of many people who are still struggling to fully recover from the aftermath of the natural disaster.
Thanks to the strategic alliance between Water Saves Lives, OXFAM Mexico, Citibanamex Fomento Social and Fundación Estafeta, it was possible to reach the Rancho las Marías community, since even before the hurricane the inhabitants had faced serious difficulties in accessing drinking water, along with the constant risk of contracting waterborne diseases.
Residents, upon receiving this equipment, have expressed deep gratitude as for many the donation not only addresses a basic need, but also revives their sense of community and hope. The ability to access clean water for drinking and cooking not only improves their physical health, but also the donation itself awakened a spirit of collaboration between different sectors of society; the power of coordinated action was seen.
As the community continues its recovery process, the water treatment plant will gradually become a living testimony of how external support can make a difference. This is what María Margarita Dominguez, a resident of the community, shares with us
“We thank the foundation for the water treatment plant, it will benefit us a lot in this community because we are short of clean water and we have never had this support before”.
This testimony not only highlights the importance of humanitarian response after natural disasters, but also underscores the resilience and determination of communities to rebuild their lives.

It is relevant to say that the donation of the water treatment plant goes beyond the delivery of materials and technical work, as it has brought cooperation and empowerment to a community that continues on its path to full recovery. Thank you OXFAM Mexico, Citibanamex Fomento Social and Fundación Estafeta for making this possible.
