Cristobal Colon Community Preschool. Pure Water, Bright Futures
The Cristobal Colon preschool has benefited from the donation of a water purification system. This early childhood education center is located in a low-income area where access to drinking water is difficult for two reasons: the high price of jugs and the contamination of wells in times of rain.
The children's consumption of clean, quality water is fundamental for their development, as they previously consumed “raw” water, a term used by the local inhabitants to refer to water that is not completely potable. The consumption of this water has repeatedly caused stomach illnesses, as Ana María Marcos, President of the town's water committee, shared with us:
“We are happy because we are going to drink filtered water, we will no longer drink raw water, we will no longer get sick”.
Listening to the testimonies of the people who will benefit from the water treatment plant, we can see the positive impact it will have on the lives of the inhabitants, since thanks to the support of OXFAM Mexico, Citibanamex Fomento Social and Fundación Estafeta through Water Saves Lives, it will be possible to extend the reach of the water treatment equipment, with the support of a faucet system outside the school, which will facilitate access to drinking water for all the families in the community.

We reiterate our thanks to OXFAM Mexico, Citibanamex Fomento Social and Fundación Estafeta, who make it possible for these communities that have been forgotten to have an opportunity to improve their health and quality of life.
