Our Lady Of Candelaria Church. Overcoming Adversity From The Heights
High up in Guerrero, surrounded by steep hillsides and lots of vegetation, is a small church that has been the heart of the community of Ocotillo for decades, its altruistic work has stood out even more after the passage of Hurricane Otis.
In the past, the church served primarily a religious role, but after the hurricane, its mission expanded to include humanitarian relief. A team of volunteers made up of community members organized to provide assistance to those who had lost their homes, crops and livelihoods.
The parish became a distribution center for food, water and basic supplies. Volunteers, many of whom were also affected by the storm, set up a system to receive and distribute incoming donations. Mireya Benitez, commissary of the town of Ocotillo, let us know that,
"Thanks to this donation, many families will have the benefit of purified water in their homes"
The church has shown that it is much more than a place of religious worship. In times of crisis, it has become a place of refuge and help for the community. Its tireless work in distributing basic supplies, providing shelter and caring for the most vulnerable has been instrumental in the recovery of this town after the hurricane. In its commitment to helping others, the parish has demonstrated the immense power and importance of solidarity and community unity in times of adversity.

We thank Instituto Patria for making this donation possible. The trust they placed in Water Saves Lives to reach those who need it most inspires us to continue exceeding expectations
