Public Library “La Lima”. Resilience And Commitment At Heights
At the top of a mountain, surrounded by breathtaking landscapes, lies the small community of La Lima. In this remote corner, life goes on in harmony with nature, but it is also marked by the challenges of life at high altitude.
Among the inhabitants, the library is considered a refuge for the community, a beacon of light in the midst of the darkness of geographic isolation. However, the scarcity of resources has always been a challenge to its development and growth.
The situation worsened when Hurricane Otis hit the region, leaving the community with no signal, no electricity and even no access to food and drinking water. People had to travel long distances to obtain the vital liquid and food, which consumed much of their time and energy. From time to time the army would come up to leave them food supplies, and sometimes the water vendors would also come up, but they made the prices more expensive.
Water Saves Lives, always committed to providing access to clean water in remote areas, decided to take action. So after weeks of planning and logistical coordination, thanks to the support of the Perez Peregrino Family, a water purification plant was donated and installed in the library.
The arrival of the water treatment equipment not only helped with the drinking water shortage problem, but also brought with it a renewed sense of belonging among the community's inhabitants. Sandy de la Cruz, an inhabitant of the community comments that,
"It will benefit the whole town, the neighboring community of “Papayito” is also contemplated, it will be of great help, because the water bottles that they come to sell us are very expensive. Thanks to all who donated".
