Most of the children who come to MARSH to live have indigenous roots, coming from the highlands, regions known for their extreme poverty. In these areas, girls are sold into marriage and boys are put to work at a very young age. When they arrive at MARSH, they enter full of hope and energy, some of them don't even speak Spanish, but they learn very quickly.
When the Water Saves Lives team arrived at the compound, they were able to see how happy the children are living there, how autonomous they are, how orderly they manage themselves and the values they have instilled in them, because at all times they were very respectful, pleasant and affectionately addressed the team members as “Aunt and Uncle”.
This was undoubtedly one of the ideal places to donate a water purifier, since it is important to point out that the site is located right in front of the beach, so after Otis' arrival, even more help was needed than before, between entire structures that fell down, the scarcity of food and water to cover the basic needs of the children, it was necessary to support in some way.
The donation has benefited more than 100 people who are at the facility every day, including children and staff who work 24/7. They have breakfast, lunch and dinner in this place, and now they can drink clean water to avoid getting sick. Jovita Godinez, director of the institution gives us some nice words.
"I believe that they have performed the miracle of life because we have a lot of problems with water and after Otis things got very complicated. I am thankful that they sent them here to be able to support these creatures".
