Maximiliano María Kolbe Shelter House. A Home That Inspires Us To Keep On Helping

The Shelter Home Problem.

For this project, we have chosen a special group of beneficiaries. This is a home dedicated to the exclusive care of women with mental disabilities who have been violated because of their condition. With the support of our clients and members, we installed three pieces of equipment that will allow them to save significantly on water costs and thus invest that money in other of their many needs.

In our search for institutions and communities most in need of drinking water, we found this home, which is located in the city of Queretaro and has access to bottled water, but there was a problem of supply and funding, so the benefit of having their own drinking water system was vital to them.

Their consumption of jug water is 14 to 20 per week to supply drinking water to 52 women. In addition to the economic expense, there was a logistical problem in obtaining demijohns, loss of time and effort that this dynamic implied. .

Having their own water purification system will allow them and their caregivers to save more than $30,000 Mexican pesos per year, allowing them to use this amount to cover other basic necessities in high demand, as well as help the women become self-sufficient by refilling their water jugs in a practical and easy way without having to ask for help. This is in addition to the time, maintenance and labor savings associated with handling such a large number of cumbersome jugs.

The Installation

After a previous visit to assess the needs and determine the supply points, we went in March to install 3 water purifiers, one in the kitchen, one in the clinic, and one in the hallway, where the women themselves could freely access the water.

This time we opened the invitation to those who had registered as volunteers and Romy Macias came on behalf of all our clients who were part of this installation. It was very nice to share this experience with her, with the hope that once the pandemic is over, we can gather more volunteers in each facility.
