The Moctezuma School. Bringing Safe Drinking Water to the State of Mexico on a Large Scale
We have brought water to 830 students! This is the largest outreach project we've had since we started Water Saves Lives... and we're going for more!
Moctezuma Elementary School is located in the Culturas de México neighborhood, a marginalized area on the outskirts of the municipality of Chalco. It is one of the largest in the municipality, where the population is poor and suffers from insecurity and lack of all kinds of resources, especially drinking water.
They have a morning shift with 631 students and an afternoon shift with 200 students.
The teachers are aware and were kind enough to tell us that some children are able to bring water from home, but
others do not have access to it at home and sometimes cannot afford to buy it.
The students tell us that they love to play and run around, but after recess they run out of the water they brought from home. The children are very happy that they will be able to refill their bottles and continue playing without being thirsty. They also tell us that they will no longer have to spend money on plastic water, which is also very polluting.
Although the school used to have drinking fountains, they have not worked for over 5 years.
The parents and directors have worked hard to maintain a functional infrastructure and good facilities, mainly to keep the students as safe as possible from the risks that exist in the neighborhood. However, they still have many needs and the ability to provide quality water to the children is a priority for them.
The installation of Clarity systems at the Montezuma School will be a game changer for the children's health, as they will be able to stay hydrated, help their economy, and reduce their environmental impact.
In keeping with Clarity's philosophy, Water Saves Lives continues to bring health and social and environmental well-being to so many children who do not have clean access to this vital liquid.
Thank you for participating in this project as an active member of Clarity!
